Wooden Toddler Toys We Love

There’s just something about wooden toys that scream quality to me. Now, I am not only buying wooden toys for my son, but we do have some that we particularly love! These are great holiday or birthday gifts that spark imaginative play while also working on important developmental skills through play.

1. New Classic Toys City Tour Bus

This cute little double decker bus is definitely a winner at our house! It is made of quality wood and has held up well. The bus comes with 9 passengers and the top deck lifts up for easy access to the bottom seats. The peg people are perfect for practicing fine motor skills!

2. Magnetic Fishing Game from UAHAPY

This is a wooden spin on that crazy fish biting game. I prefer this one hands down over the plastic version. My son will spend 20 to 30 minutes at a time with this game (in toddler time, that’s an eternity!) It promotes color and size recognition as well as fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

3. Hape pop up toaster & coffee maker

I love, love, LOVE Hape brand toys! They are simple, yet well made. These two appliances are a must have for your littles pretend kitchen. I love the simple modern look of the black, but the toaster comes in white and green as well. And the coffee maker is available in red/white and green

4. Hape Alphabet Puzzle

Ok, so I know this one is simple, but sometimes simple is best! It’s made by Hape (again, LOVE) so it’s contructed well and non toxic. Also the letters are chunky so it’s easier for small hands to work with. It is good for letter recognition, matching and hand eye coordination. It also comes in a lower case version!

5. Melissa & Doug Folding Castle

If your toddler is getting into pretend play, this is a must have! It folds out for easy access to the inside. It also has a working draw bridge and jail (or I guess it would be a dungeon?) I bought one of these about 12 years ago for my brother. This thing has stood the test of time. He played with it all the time, then our cousin played with it and it will soon be passed on to my son. Melissa & Doug make people to go with it, but my brother had an extensive Playmobil collection and the knights fit wonderfully in this castle!
